An article on the Portland Business Journal's website quotes an anonymous volunteer on the second recall campaign against Mayor Sam Adams this morning. The article says the second recall plans to launch tomorrow.

RECALL RECALL: LAUNCHING TOMORROW?
  • RECALL RECALL: LAUNCHING TOMORROW?
But the story, which doesn't seem to have a byline, is based on some pretty weak sauce. It appears to have one unattributed source, and neither confirmation or denial from the campaign spokesperson, Avel Gordly.

Update, 1:58 The Oregonian is reporting about a "press release to be issued tomorrow." We're trying to track it down.

Update 2, 2:22 The Tribune has contacted Ross Day, a signature gatherer, who says he's "ready to go."

Update, 2:43: Reporter Sarah Mirk just got through to Day. She writes:

Ross Day, co-owner of signature-gathering company Voice of the Electorate, says his firm plans to hit the streets with 18-20 paid petitioners as soon as the recall campaign files. Asked why the anti-Adams team will be able to gather enough signatures to recall the mayor after the first recall flopped, Day noted that the first recall was attempted with all volunteer labor. “There’s an experience factor there that plays into it,” says Day. “God love the volunteers, they did a great job, but we’ve got processes in place that will allow us to collect signatures more effectively.” Voice of the Electorate has successfully gathered signatures for numerous conservative causes, including the current anti-tax campaign against Measures 66 and 67.

Original post:

Here at the Mercury, we've been expecting a launch after the January 26 election on Measures 66 and 67, and would be surprised if the funders of the "no" vote on those measures would want to do anything to interfere with the election before then. On the other hand, I suppose, there could be a benefit to the "no on 66 and 67" campaign in blasting the media with Sam Adams stories before the election. Just spit-balling here. Either way I guess we'll find out in the morning. We've placed a call to Gordly, too, and will update you when it's returned.
