Saltzman Files For Reelection, But Will He Deign To Share A Stage With His Rivals On Jan 28?

Posted by Matt Davis on Tue, Jan 19, 2010 at 4:25 PM

UPDATE: DAN SALTZMAN WILL BE COMING, says his campaign manger. FANTASTIC.

ORIGINAL POST, 12:24 pm:

In surprise of the year, reticent police commissioner Dan Saltzman has finally filed for reelection this morning. We've invited Saltzman, along with the other 6 candidates for his seat, to our Candidate Olympiad on January 28.

SALTZMAN: FINALLY FILED THIS MORNING
  • SALTZMAN: FINALLY FILED THIS MORNING

So far, Saltzman's campaign manager, Emerald Bogue, has been iffy about Saltzman's attendance at the Olympiad. Why, after all, would he need to talk to the voters before running for reelection? Why would he want to discuss issues of environmental, transportation, and police accountability? With you...the public?

Totally, I can see that by sharing a bobsled with his publicly financed opponents, Saltzman might legitimize some of their criticism of him. He might also legitimize the publicly financed elections process, too, having handily defeated Amanda Fritz in the last election by outspending her at the last minute.

Still, Bogue hasn't actually said "no" on Saltzman's behalf just yet. Here's hoping:

WHOS DRIVING THIS BOBSLED?

And if that fails, bull out the big guns like Mark Weiner, you know this guy:

Did Ed Garren's steering committee approve of the group spaceship shot? It would be cheaper to have them drop him off in W. Hollywood then have him get public financing...no?
