Snow Storm Strikes SF-Bound Street Roots Activists

Posted by Sarah Mirk on Tue, Jan 19, 2010 at 3:02 PM

Social justice advocates from Street Roots, Jobs with Justice and Sisters of the Road seem to be having the road trip adventure of a lifetime heading down to a massive housing protest in San Francisco.

First the motley crew stopped off in Ashland to protest US Bank's support of Measure 66 and 67, then heading from Weed to Shasta, they drove straight into a blizzard.

Check out this photo from the Street Roots blog of some of Portland's most outspoken activists freezing their butts off:

Let's hope they actually make it to San Francisco—the big Western Regional Advocacy Project meetup is protesting the 12 percent increase in homelessness in cities across the country.

So much protesting. I wonder how on Earth they find time to get all of that done.

What the fuck? Why are Street Roots protesting US Bank's support of M66 & M67?

Or is it possible that smirk made a huge factual error in her blog post and that US Bank has actually been lobbying against M66 & M67? Nah, it's more likely that Street Roots is doing something really dumb.

We are out of the storm finally and on the south side of Shasta and things are running smooth. Also I want to note that we have reps from the Community Alliance of Tenants, Right 2 Survive... W the largest group being from Sisters. Saying all that, most importantly sign the petition to adequately fund local communities for affordable housing and to ensure that local city government uphold poor folks civil rights. You can access the petition by clicking the Western Regional Advocacy Project link above.

All I see are a few people standing outside of what is likely an AWD/4WD vehicle in 3 inches of snow??? I mean...seriously...REALLY?

OK I'm an asshole translplant from a snow riddled state, but...REALLY?

Someone call the fucking WAAAHHHH-mbulence.

SR wasn't protesting anything for or against Measure 66 & 67.

I believe JWJ, and others were there because of U.S. Bank stance against the measure.

Thanks for your confidence Graham.

Sorry, we didn't freeze to death.

Who's complaining, Amazon? It's an adventure...

@Israel B: Fucking zionist....

I kid, I kid. That was just too easy. The link that smirk posted does have factually accurate information. Namely, that some of people in your van were protesting US Bank's opposition to M67 & M66.

Smirk makes a mistake, Graham calls her out on it. (And it still hasn't been fixed.) Yet another day on blogtown.

Yeah, it's like in kindergarten, when you showed a girl that you like her by punching her in the shoulder and running away.

And @amazon - I don't think there are many AWD vans out there. It's probably front engine, rear wheel drive...

Reymont, nearly every manufacturer that makes vans has at least one AWD model.

Since smirk is too lazy to fix her glaringly inaccurate blog post or to make updates.

The Street Roots van made it through the inclimate weather and is somewhere north of San Francisco (My guess is somewhere around Corning, CA).

See Graham, if you don't act like a total asshole about it:

She fixes it. But now she is just doing it to spite you.

Inclimate weather should be inclement weather. So there.

@Matthew: But If I wasn't a total asshole, how would they know I care?

@ujfoyt: I knew my spelling looked weird, but when I googled, "inclimate weather" tons of hits came up. Like official government pages and crap. Looks like my mistake is a common one, but it's still a mistake. I will endeavor not to make the same one again in the future.
