Final Fantasy I, II Coming to iPhone

Posted by Earnest "Nex" Cavalli on Thu, Jan 21, 2010 at 10:30 AM

In case you missed them when they were released on the NES, MSX2, GameBoy, GameBoy Advance, Wonderswan Color, PlayStation, PSP and the Wii's Virtual Console, Square Enix has decided to dust off the first two Final Fantasy games yet again for a re-release on Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch.

Not much has been revealed about these new releases, but the company was kind enough to offer a handful of screenshots when it discreetly (read: absolutely no one noticed) announced the games on its Facebook page.

Needs More Swordchucks

It's been a while since I last played through the PSP remakes, but as far as I can tell the graphics on the iPhone release are slightly better than that last remake. Completionist Final Fantasy geeks should be happy about that, but with the number of roleplaying game fans who haven't owned these two in one form or another numbering in the low fives, I'm curious as to how big the market actually is for yet another reissue.

Who am I kidding? If they price these things at $5 a piece they'll make a mint off of nostalgia alone.
