Today in PDX

Seen today on NE 25th and Sandy! Used hypodermic needles! Sticking out of a tree! (That is all.)

How does this image make you feel? (I'm asking because I am genetically devoid of emotion. Unrelated question: What is love?)

I'm trying to think of where this was, as I can't think of any trees on NE 25th and Sandy.

I see hypos Downtown in the Park Blocks all the time, as well as in and around the walking trails in the West Hills. It's nasty for sure, but I don't think that anyone who's lived in Portland for longer than 6 months doesn't know about the heroin problems here.

Portland is filled with a lot of losers. Some are hard-luck, feel sorta bad for them losers. Some are just losers.

This stuff makes me think about my kids, and if I can really raise them here.

At least stuck in the tree no one steps on them...

Even the trees are turning to dope. :(

@Jackattak: The tree is on 25th proper, just north of the corner, right next to that gray building. I can't imagine it would be a happy tree, hypodermic needles notwithstanding.

Someone should get that tree some help. Don't just assume it's heroin, you can inject coke and meth too, it could be really bad. This could be a cry for help, don't let it become a stump.

Got it, Mr. Humphrey. Poor tree. I echo the sentiment that at least they aren't on the ground for my dogs to walk on when I'm on the East Side.

I think that's the tree that was muttering threats under it's breath to everyone on the bus this morning. Or maybe that was another tree.

It's a diabetic tree; why do you guys always jump to conclusions?

That tree is right outside my building. I know the guy that stuck the tree with at least one of those needles. He's a homeless guy and sorta a friend. I met him a few years ago when I was doing drugs. I really don't care for him too much because he's always showing up at my place trying to get me to help him in whatever scheme he's thought up to make some money. I kicked all my bad habits, I just can't seem to get rid of him. He's just kinda attached himself to me and I can't really get him to go away. I feel badly for him because he does have a good heart in many ways, and his mental troubles aren't his fault. I'm the only person he has that isn't using him in some way or the other and will let him come inside to be warm on cold and rainy days. My friend was born to drug addicted parents and it really messed up his brain. He has ADHD, bipolar disorder, and a strong tendency to drug addiction. He's been on heroin off and on since July of last year. He tried rehab in Vancouver recently, but ran away after 2 weeks. He completely lacks all impulse control and really doesn't know how to fit in with society, and can be dangerous in certain situations. He was adopted as a baby and his family spent thousands trying to fix him, but nothing took. His adopted parents live in Washington state and don't let him know where they live, because when he gets upset he can be dangerous. Anyway, he pointed out the needles to me the other day and I meant to go out and take them out of the tree after he left, and I just forgot. On weekends you can find my friend outside Silverado where he sometimes hustles himself.
