Tonight and tomorrow at the Newmark, the U.S. premiere of The Butterfly Lovers, performed by the Bejing Dance Academy Resident Dance Company. Show's at 7:30 pm, tickets are $30-60, more info here.

At Powell's, Jake Adelstein reads from his memoir Tokyo Vice, about working as a police beat reporter in Japan. (You can read Matt Davis' interview with Adelstein here. Sample quote: "And did his wife mind, when he told her he'd had to put his fingers inside a prostitute in the line of duty? 'I don't think I told her that,' said Adelstein. 'I think that's probably one of the reasons why this book is a precipitator of our probably impending divorce.'") That's downtown at 7:30 pm.

And at 7 pm at Broadway Books, Ariel Gore reads from her new book Blue Bird, a pop psychology study of female happiness. I found it sort of harmlessly trite, but the O's review is positive (or at least, disinclined to say anything too critical. "Some readers' frustrations still may be understandable.")
