Okay, so some progressive protesty types have set out to make a Tea Party for liberals. And they're calling it the Coffee Party. And it's coming to Portland. No, seriously.

The Week magazine has a rundown on the coffee party so far, but I just got this press release from the fledgling Portland chapter:

MISSION: The Coffee Party Movement gives voice to Americans who want to see cooperation in government. We recognize that the federal government is not the enemy of the people, but the expression of our collective will, and that we must participate in the democratic process in order to address the challenges that we face as Americans. As voters and grassroots volunteers, we will support leaders who work toward positive solutions, and hold accountable those who obstruct them.

“Our events at this point consist of gathering people interested in supporting the ideals of The Coffee Movement, sharing our stories, and listening to each other,” says organizer Kristy Alberty. “Many of us feel that respectful dialogue that is solution-oriented, not blame-oriented, is wanted by so many people."

The solution-oriented party kick-off is March 13th, at Krakow Café & Pub (3990 N. Interstate) 12-2pm and at Bipartisan Café (7901 SE Stark St.) 7pm to 9pm.
