JEWS, DADS, & BFFS—Portland Center Stage put on their reading glasses for an adaptation of Chaim Potok's 1967 novel The Chosen, about a friendship between two Jewish boys in 1940s Williamsburg. To celebrate the show's themes of fatherhood and friendship, PCS is offering special discounts to anyone who brings their BFF to the show, and anyone under 30 who brings their dad—see their website for details. CH-CH-CH-CHERRY BOMB—Rock biopics can be a tricky thing, but The Runaways does an excellent job of capturing the meteoric rise of Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, as a pair of teens forced to cope with the perils of instant celebrity. While Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart get top billing, it's Michael Shannon (playing the role of the Runaways' unstable manager, Kim Fowley) that steals the show. EAC
