Jónsi's Remarkable Sounding Stage Set

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Tue, Apr 13, 2010 at 12:14 PM

It sounds like the Jónsi show tonight will be quite the production. The singer for Icelandic band Sigur Rós has gone all out for his first solo tour. UK-based design house 59 Productions has been hired for the show's stage design and its filmed projections, and judging from the mini-doc above [EDIT: which Tonry posted on End Hits a couple weeks ago], it sounds incredible. Spin describes the stage set as looking like "the Museum of Natural History after a fire," while the Wall Street Journal says:
The singer sought something more theatrical for his coming solo tour... He enlisted a design company that creates sets for the Metropolitan Opera Company, the English National Opera and other bastions of high culture. The company, Fifty Nine Productions, was looking to branch out into pop music.
Ever money-minded, WSJ can't help but add:
Jónsi's team is spending a lot of money on this tour, but the singer says he has no idea how much. "There's no investors. It's just us. I have good managers who don't tell me anything about the finances. I can just be the sensitive artist," the soft-spoken Icelander says. "If I lose everything, I'll move back in with my parents. Joke."
This could be absolutely amazing, and it's here in Portland tonight.
