"Awards season" is all year long in the book world (probably looking for those seasonal sales boosts) but some more significant ones have announced nominees recently, and the Pulitzer winners were announced yesterday. The Seattle Times took one for Breaking News Reporting for their work on the Tacoma police officer shootings and the subsequent man hunt. The Portland Mercury ...did not win one, but then neither did Willamette Week or the Oregonian. (I'm guessing that the Beau Breedlove and Sam Adams dalliance tour of Portland map wasn't Pulitzer material.)

(The Nebula Awards are voted on by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and have been around since 1965. The Hugos are presented by the World Science Fiction Society which is basically a few select SciFi conventions around the world where they collect ballots. Established in 1955.)
