What You Hath Wrought: This Week's Mercury Cover, Featuring Betty White, John Ritter, and a Flaming Chainsaw.

Posted by Erik Henriksen on Wed, Apr 14, 2010 at 3:24 PM

Hey, remember when you guys helped us design the Mercury's cover? And you decided you wanted it to feature Betty White, holding a flaming chainsaw, riding John Ritter? And then we talked to artist Andrew Zubko about making it?

Well, this week's papers just arrived. They should be hitting the streets of Portland as we speak. Nice work, Blogtownies.

Um, shouldn't John Ritter be bigger than Betty White? I mean, he is closer to the veiwer.

Is this a reference to the Whore of Babylon riding in on a mythical beast? A sign of the Obamaclypse?

Gotta check out Zubko's interview with the kid who inspired the Batman Vs. Shark poster. Here's brilliant exchange:

Q: What do you think Batman is thinking while he’s fighting the shark?

Asher: He is thinking that he is wishing the shark would be dead. Batman is also thinking about his dead parents while he is fighting the shark. He would think about his parents because….uhhh let me think in my head, just give me time….uhhhh. He is thinking about killing the criminal that killed his parents.

Q: How would you make this painting better?

Asher: You could put Joker right on top of the sharks nose with a sword and his mom and dads heads in Jokers hands.

Thank you, everyone. I'm glad you enjoy the cover. I'm happy to see all the positive feedback. And to answer bbbbb's question - John Ritter seems smaller because Betty White dominates all that surrounds her. No one can screw with Betty White!

Oh, and the Princess Leia outfit is purely coincidental, I swear! I didn't realize it until Psymonetta Isnoful's comment.
