Be The Next Mercury Summer Intern!

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Tue, May 18, 2010 at 1:30 PM

Let me let you in on a little insider information: The Mercury offers three-month internships for all four seasons of the year, but summer is by far the best time of year to suck up your fear of pugs and head down to our offices. It's when Patrick Alan Coleman breaks out his skimpiest office attire and is most likely to throw spontaneous margarita parties, and it's the only time of the year our staff doesn't immediately scurry off to their respective corners of the city precisely at 5 pm, but are much more likely to meander across the parking lot to Club 21 for happy hour on the patio, where we have also been known to kick down a drink for an unpaid intern now and then. That's right, UNPAID!

Qualified candidates:

-Will know and love the city of Portland for its arts and culture.

-Will know and love the Mercury for its _________.

-Will know how to write, and love it.

-Will be pro-active and able to work independently.

-Will be stoked on blogging.

-Will be game for less glamorous but equally important things like data entry and transcription.

If you are successful, you will walk away from your internship with something truly impressive to finally put on your resume, plus a number of published clips. And the memories. To apply, send me a "cover letter" explaining why you want to be a part of the Merc, along with a resume and writing samples (unpublished or self-published is fine, no school papers please). This internship runs June-August and will require 2-3 days out of your week. And... go.
