The police released some small details about the investigation of last week's shooting of 25-year-old African American Keaton Otis near Lloyd Center.

First of all, a gun that police found in Otis's car has been sent to the crime lab for analysis. Officers say they have determined that Otis shot Officer Chris Burley twice, once in each leg. So now we can drop the language of Otis "allegedly" shooting Officer Burley.

Investigators are currently interviewing 20 civilian witnesses and a dozen officers who were at the scene of the shooting or arrived just after the incident. All their testimony will be presented to a grand jury, which will begin meeting this Friday to determine whether the officers' deadly force was justified. Mayor Sam Adams and Chief Mike Reese promised last week that the grand jury records would be made public, so within two weeks we should be able to review all the witness testimony ourselves.

Also, good news: Officer Burley has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
