Timbers! Montréal! New Blogger! Cupcakes!

The Portland Timbers take on the Montréal Impact (or L’Impact de Montréal for you Francophones out there) tonight at PGE Park at 7pm. Timbers head coach Gavin Wilkinson is off scouting in Ghana so let’s hope the players don’t have any of the Boss-Is-Out-Of-Town-Let’s-Sneak-Out-Early-From-Work-For-Cupcakes kind of energy. Given their recent run of play—a shockingly apathetic loss to last place Crystal Palace Baltimore and unavoidable yet no less real tie to AC St. Louis—they need to come out with a bit more verve.

L’Impact are fresh from their own team announcement that they, too, are moving up to Major League Soccer in 2012 so they’ll be thinking they’re all that but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Portland score early. Hopefully often. The Boys in Green and White have not yet won in the month of May and some like myself, are desperate for a win. Maybe Gavin’ll bring back special African cupcakes for a little tea party if they play nice.

Who am I to tell you all this? I am the newly minted Timbers blogger for Blogtown. I’ll be posting in on Timbers matches, World Cup developments, random intersections of soccer and culture, and all the lead up to the Timbers’ MLS debut for next year. Yes, to answer your question, I hang out in the North End with the Timbers Army. Yes, I’m a fan. I’ve written about the Timbers before on the interwebs for other soccer blogs, believe Ireland should have had a replay vs. France (watch your back Thierry Henry), think Lionel Messi is a wizard (probably Gryffindor House), am a geek for films, art, theatre, pop culture, and I enjoy long walks in the park.

And cupcakes.

Mostly though, when I root, I root for the Timbers.

Argh, just got back from the game. Can you say hand ball?
Anyway, I'm excited, and looking forward to seeing your posts.

What is with the Timmies getting the ball in the box but not converting? They can do better- at least I hope they can! This season better not go the way the M's season is going and Blazers' post-season went- all my teams always seem to lose...I'm bad luck...

I was at the game last night. I had a great time, but was disappointed at how the Timbers completely dominated the stats but weren't able to put up any goals. Oh well, here's to getting the coach back from Africa!
