Our subheadline for this week's Sex and the City 2 review is "Sex and the City 2: The Gayest Fanfic Ever Filmed." Which everyone here thought was fine... at least until this morning, that is, when I got a super grumpy phone call from Michael Teufel at the Oregonian. (Teufel isn't a reporter—he works in the Oregonian's telemarketing department, though he didn't bother telling me that.) The irate Teufel was grumpy because we used the word "gayest," and he assumed we meant it as an insult. (He was also grumpy about some other stuff, too, including how "juvenile" our review was, that he hadn't heard of "fanfic" before, and why we would even bother reviewing Sex and the City 2, but that's neither here nor there.)

Just so we're clear, I'll tell you guys what I told Teufel: That in this context, "gayest" is used as an adjective, not a pejorative. This distinction was lost on Teufel, who suggested that regardless of how it's used, "gayest" is always an insult. (He was silent when I asked him if a phrase like, "That gay bar is the gayest gay bar!" was insulting, too.) The point of our review's subhead isn't that Sex and the City 2 is stupid (though it most certainly is), it's that Sex and the City 2 is really, really gay (see above image).

Anyway, Teufel suggested an alternate subhead for the piece, just to clear up any confusion: "Sex and the City 2: The Most Homosexually Oriented Fanfic Ever Filmed." What do you think, Blogtown readers? Should we change it?
