Book News Round Up

Posted by Jacob Schraer on Fri, Jun 25, 2010 at 3:43 PM

Some interesting articles out there in the literary world.

Dzanc Books blog compiles a list of twenty young writers to watch as an answer the New Yorker's chosen ones.

Allen Barra of the Wall Street Journal savages the legacy of Harper Lee's classic To Kill a Mockingbird in an infuriating editorial. I should have known he was an asshole since he's writing opinion for The Wall Street Journal.

Jim Thompson, a somewhat obscure crime writer from the mid-century, has been attracting a lot of attention lately due to the new adaptation of his dark classic The Killer Inside Me. Two recent articles highlight his recent popularity and the history of films adapted from his work.

The movie looks like a pretty straight adaptation. Apparently it was so violent that audiences walked out at the Cannes Film Festival screening. I think the preview looks awesome.
