Good Morning, News!!

Posted by Stefan Kamph on Fri, Jul 9, 2010 at 9:05 AM

BP Gusher Update! A new collection cap "may be ready" by Saturday, and a new collection vessel capable of sucking "up to 25,000 barrels a day" of oil "may be ready" by Sunday. AAARGHH!!! Meanwhile, the US Navy decides to help out (whew, what a relief! They have all kids of equipment and manpower!) by flying... a BLIMP over the site (WHAT?!?!? I want my tax money back, you incompetent thugs!!!).

The Obama administration tries to figure out what to do after a court refuses to reinstate a ban on deepwater drilling (they'll probably try to issue a new ban).

North Korea wants to talk with the US about the sinking of a South Korean warship (for which the US and most other countries blame the North).

The USA sends 10 Russian spies home after guilty pleas; in exchange, Russia releases 4 suspected American spies. Iran sits, watches, chuckles.

Speaking of Iran, they're still stoning women.

A court finds a Bay Area transit officer guilty for shooting Oscar Grant, an unarmed black man, in the back on a train platform last year. Protesters riot in Oakland.

Some Midwestern guy goes to the beach. World cares.

A creepy kids' book author is sentenced to prison for kiddie porn. This is why you should give your kids real books to read.

Kyron's parents come right out and say it: they suspect his stepmom of foul play.

And getting back to US/Russian relations for a minute... a Russian news channel reports that the Russian-built $19 million toilet on the American side of the International Space Station is broken (due to "maintenance" problems), so now the Americans have to use the Russians' toilet. Eat your Raisin Bran, America!
