Two hours before showtime for the opening night of Trek in the Park's second annual live reenactment of a classic Star Trek episode, the good seats in Woodlawn Park's small ampitheater were already taken. One group of fans sprawled out in the shade playing board games while an older couple in lawn chairs called out corny Star Trek jokes ("How many Vulcans does it take to change a lightbulb?" "More than one would be illogical!").
By the time the cast made its grand entrance at 4:45 PM, strutting past the kiddie fountain and BBQs, an audience of 300 people encircled the grassy stage, blowing bubbles, frantically applying sunscreen and chowing down on falafel from food cart Truck Trek Yeah!
When the five o'clock hour hit, the crowd cheered a welcome message from Captain Kirk (Trek director Adam Rosko) and 1967's "Space Seed" was off and running.
