Things To Do In Portland When You're Writing

Posted by Jacob Schraer on Tue, Jul 13, 2010 at 3:38 PM

Local magazine Tin House is hosting their Summer Writer's Workshop this week with events at Reed College. Workshops are sold out but there are some great seminars and readings which cost $15 and $5, respectively.

Seminars include information and advice on humorous writing, morality and complexity in fiction, why MFA programs are bogus, and one simply called "Endings." The readings feature three authors at a time with the Wednesday line-up particularly stacked, featuring Karen Russell, author of the acclaimed short story collection St. Lucy's School for Girls Raised by Wolves. David Shields is reading on Thursday, a guy I've talked up a lot on Blogtown.
