File this under: "Awwwwww... Yay!!!!!"

After ten years of business on Hawthorne, Taste of Europe, the specialty shop for all things Old World, will be closing sometime in early August. But don’t fret too much about losing your source for European flavor. The space is slated to be replaced by 442, a new bar dedicated to soccer enthusiasts. According to their website, 442 will be:

The only bar in town where you will never miss your favorite soccer game and in addition a place where you can watch all major sporting events on 3 large HD TVs.

Full liquor bar, old pub atmosphere and friendly soccer-fanatic staff.

They are currently taking suggestions on which teams and leagues you’d like to follow on those large HD screens.

In the interim, receive deep discounts on Taste of Europe goods with %50 off everything in the store until they close their doors next month.

If you build the pub, the hooligans will come.

@tak

Can you really call it a "sports" bar if it only focuses on one sport?

I'm OK with more sports bars. I like live sports, but don't have cable, and live on the inner east side, and there are actually surprisingly few reliable options when it comes to bars that a) have multiple HD screens* and b) aren't completely cheesy all-domestics-on-tap archetypal suburban sports bars.

*There has to be more than one screen, or I'm out of luck if my game conflicts with the Blazers game, or something else of supposedly local interest. It was surprisingly difficult to watch the NHL finals and Olympic hockey, for example, and you can just forget about non-Seattle MLB most places.

@CC: There's two bars in my hood that hit those criteria. Tanker and Belmont Inn. Why aren't you watching NFL at these places?

@ Graham: You're right, pretty much the whole cluster of bars that fit the criteria are near you. Blitz Ladd has been our go-to lately, which isn't too far obviously.

Commenty Colin -- Most of the time Hawthorne Hideaway has a screen that is Seattle free. Someone was asking why we were watching the Brewers.

Pinstripes on 11th has tons of screens and thought it was going to be a Yankee's bar.

I never really liked watching Futbol until the vuvuzela. Now that I have mine I use it to annoy the shit out of the people trying to watch the game.
