Mercury Accused of Racism... AGAIN

Posted by Wm.™ Steven Humphrey on Tue, Aug 17, 2010 at 1:38 PM

Here's a voice mail I received from a reader today which gets my vote for the most drippingly sarcastic and judgmental message of the year. Listen. (Audio NSFW! Headphones up!)

However, I can't say she's completely wrong. In this case we did choose someone from a minority (the "super hot chicks" minority) and placed a bug on her. On the other hand, our intention was not to demean the super hot chick (super hot chicks aren't a racial minority, right?), but rather to uplift the bug. For too long, bugs have often been depicted wallowing in garbage or crushed underfoot by a shoe. The Mercury is committed to reversing this blatant discrimination by ensuring all bugs—regardless of race or religion—are portrayed in a positive, uplifting light. And preferably with nude hot chicks. Thanks for your message, caller!
