It's always nice when a government agency has the heart to apologize—and make fixes—after needlessly stepping into shit.

TriMet this afternoon announced it will resume service to Forest Park on the #15 bus line starting Monday, August. 30.

The Willamette Heights neighbors who relied on the line beefed after TriMet unilaterally shortened it effective Aug. 13, citing "safety concerns" on the route once it ascended up NW Thurman past Montgomery Park.

In a letter to neighbors, TriMet GM Neil McFarlane acknowledged that the decision came without any public feedback or even warning. "You have my commitment that we will work with the neighbors to help find the best solution possible to restoring service."

However, there will be some changes. Weekday service will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., but Saturday runs will be limited to 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with Sunday service gone.

TriMet still insists there's safety concerns on the line, essentially a tight spot at Gordon and Thurman that requires buses to make three-point turn before coming back east. Flaggers will be on site Monday, and warning devices are planned.

Of course, as the O's Steve Duin noted, out of 108,000 or so trips since 2001, there have been only six incidents, among them some busted mirrors and scratched utility poles.
