Seen Today in PDX

Posted by Sarah Mirk on Thu, Aug 26, 2010 at 10:59 AM

I noticed this cardboard sign dangling from a stop sign near our office and stopped to read the strange notices scrawled on its front and back. I assumed it must be part of IFC series Portlandia, which was shooting in our office yesterday. But when I asked the crew if they knew anything about it, they shook their heads.

I have few clues to understand this mystery sign. The sign was hung on a stop sign with no bike around at all. Ideas, anyone? My theory is: bike was chained to pole for a long time, infuriating neighbor who made funny, passive-aggressive notice, bike owner's mom removed bike, writing back aggressive-aggressive notice.

I appreciate the proper punctuation on the retort sign.

I love the phrase, "you dumb fuck," especially coming from a mom.

Do they still tag bikes that are parked in the same place everyday ? Then the city cuts the up or did they finally wise up.

@Rosy: I've seen bikes get flagged and removed in the last six months or so. It seems like the bike has to be obviously abandoned: wheels missing, rust, et al.

Yeah they are getting better. One poor OCD guy parked his bike in the same place every day and they would tag it at least 3 times per year. I heard they used to just melt them down and not even auction them off.
