My Chicagoland upbringing requires I add a footnote for Anton Cermak:

Cermak, Chicago's mayor since 1931, was standing on the running board of FDR's car in Miami when the shots rang out. He was wounded in the assassination attempt, and died several days later.

I always read "The Stranger," as "The Strangler," which would make more sense if it was a Boston weekly.
