What's up Haters! You've probably heard of that ridiculous, interminable novel Atlas Shrugged, written by Social Darwinist-in-Chief Ayn Rand? At long last, they're making it into a movie. Here's the preview.

Excited yet? It's the story of an indignant industrialist who decides that we, the underachieving scum of the earth, aren't worth wasting the fruits of his labor on. (High speed rails?) So he abandons us. Looks like the dialogue's going to be as nuanced and deep as Rand's prose. But it couldn't be worse than the 1949 film of The Fountainhead that Rand wrote herself....

Maybe not. Moving on...

Ever since Borders filed for bankruptcy and began closing a third of their locations, cities everywhere have been losing their only source for books. Thankfully, these nice folks have compiled a list of independent alternatives to Borders stores that are closing. For some reason Portland doesn't appear on that list, but I'm sure you all know you can go to the Barnes & Noble at Lloyd Center.

Finally, Knopf has announced a release date for Haruki Murakami's 1Q84. It's October 25th, it will be translated by Jay Rubin . This Guardian article is good and informative and has some serious plot spoilers, but you can skip that paragraph if you like.
