So as I've mentioned plenty of times before, the Japanese are just a weeeeeee bit too obsessed with making a life-like robot. Every time they try, they fall into the classic "uncanny valley" trap, and I'm stuck with horrific bed-sweating nightmares for at least two weeks. HOWEVER! I will say this: Their latest robot, named "Geminoid," is the closest they've gotten yet to nailing a look that's almost true to life. Here's a quick video of "Geminoid" trying to smile. Watch it.
Here's another one of "Geminoid" (who looks curiously like a cross between some British actor I can't name and Art Alexakis) doing some freaky blinking, shrugging, and mugging for the camera. ANYWAY! We could talk all day about tech ethics, cyber slavery, and the other problems that creating a life-like robot could lead eventually lead to. However, since this is clearly the most realistic robot yet, what I want to know is…
WOULD YOU PORK THAT OR ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE PORKED?
