Sports Your Daily Blazer: Taking My Tears to South Beach

Well, that sure was pleasant. After toppling a Dwight Howard-less Orlando Magic team on Monday, the Blazers rolled into South Beach last night and upset the superstar cavalcade that is the Miami Heat by the score of 105-96. For the first time since the arrival of Gerald Wallace, the Blazers showcased their impressive team depth (outscoring the paltry Miami bench by a a 41-8 margin) and a balanced offensive front that had six players with double-digit scoring performances. The victory was Portland's seventh consecutive win away from the cozy confines of the Rose Garden, which is even more impressive when you consider that the Blazers still have a losing record (16-17) on the road.

But before the pinwheel faithful starts clearing their calendars for the playoff months ahead, the Blazers will have to survive one of the toughest home stretches in the NBA. Of the Blazers' final 18 game, a dozen are against teams slated for the playoffs. If that wasn't bad enough, a third of Portland's remaining schedule is against three of the top four teams in the league—a pair against the Lakers, Spurs, and Mavericks. While the Blazers are currently tied with Nuggets for the fifth spot in the Western Conference playoff slotting, they are just three games removed from being out of the postseason altogether.

Eh, who wants to think about that? Let's savor last night's victory. Bawl don't lie, LeBron.
