Hero of the week!

Route 77 bus driver Rick Sound has probably seen his fair share of insanity during his 24 years in the TriMet system, but on Tuesday he did something incredible: Stopped a woman from throwing herself off the Streel Bridge.

According to reports, he was driving over the bridge when he saw the woman stepping over the railing, about the jump down into the Willamette:

Sound grabbed her leg and held onto her as she struggled against him. He recalled her saying something like "I just want to jump. Don't stop me."

Sound, a 53-year-old St Helens resident who has children of his own, tried to dissuade her, responding "think of your mom and dad. What would they feel like?"
A woman on the bus who regularly rides the No. 77 came out to help Sound hold onto the woman as she continued to struggle and a passing motorist — a federal immigration agent — stopped to assist.

He had handcuffs, he said, and they brought the woman on board. They cuffed her to the railing, while waiting for police who were summoned by TriMet's dispatchers.
