Ian Karmel and Whats-her-face on Portlandia
  • Ian Karmel and What's-her-face on "Portlandia"

Ian Karmel is on top of his hustle. He's everywhere these days—running what's become one of Portland's preeminent local showcases, Fly Ass Jokes, to getting segments on the Trail Blazers' post game show, to opening for the heavy hitters touring through town.

Karmel's hosting skills have really put Fly Ass Jokes on the map. When it fills up, the Brody Theatre is a pretty nice little room as well. The bi-weekly showcase has been filling up consistently in recent months. The coming edition promises to be one of the best yet.

Shows Friday and Saturday are the first of a number of special tune-ups/celebrations in the week leading up to Bridgetown. This weekend Fly Ass Jokes presents some of Portland's best local acts—it's kind of a "get-to-know-your-local-comedians" sort of thing. And the lineups are great. But if you're thinking of going, I'd get there and grab a seat early.
