*...um, to the name of his band. Probably.

Anyway. It's been a year since Police Chief Mike Reese ascended to his job atop the Portland Police Bureau (or it will be, next Thursday, May 12). So Reese and I sat down this morning and had a long conversation about a 12-month span I said was "busy" but which he called "tumultuous."

Given what's gone on since that day—seven officer-involved shootings, three cops getting shot, an outcry over an officer's promotion, new union contracts, Taser lawsuits and questions, etc.—his word is probably better.

You can read the full conversation later this month, on May 19. And I'll have some more tidbits of the more serious variety up on Blogtown on Reese's actual anniversary. But for now, I'll leave you with this lighter (and somewhat topical) tidbit:

As I teased up above, the chief admits he's mulling over a new name for his band, currently gigging as the Usual Suspects. That new name, tentatively, "just because the Joint Terrorism Task Force has taken up a lot of time," the chief says?

The Joint Rock Task Force. Reese blames this popular post in the Mercury for giving him and his bandmates the idea. Thank us when you see us, Portland. We're making a difference. What else you got, Blogtownies?
