Media Grand Rapids: Not Dead Yet

Somebody is sensitive. In response to a list of "dying cities" published by Newsweek in January, which placed Grand Rapids, Michigan at number 10 (New Orleans was number one, followed by Vallejo, CA—save the Marine World wales!—and a bunch of other likely suspects like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Flint were listed), the city banded together to do a giant lip sync music video, in which they prove how very much alive they are, having hella dudes who play acoustic guitar and everything, albeit probably have too much time on their totally alive hands (proof: they chose "American Pie," which is the longest song on Earth). Anyway, it's making the rounds:


How is it that Portland has gone this long without making one of these? Surely we're dorky enough. Probably the dorkiest city on the west coast, right? Or did it already happen? Does that Portlandia trailer count? :(
P.S. Newsweek's response to their response was to completely disown the list: "It was done by a website called mainstreet.com—not by Newsweek (it was unfortunately picked up on the Newsweek web site as part of a content sharing deal)—and it uses a methodology that our current editorial team doesn't endorse and wouldn't have employed. It certainly doesn't reflect our view of Grand Rapids." Certainly not!
