The news of this week is the anti-gay assault that took place on the Hawthorne Bridge on Sunday, but Portland police have just announced they've made an arrest in another bias crime that occurred in December.

Twenty eight-year-old Rickey Watson was wanted on charges stemming from an altercation in the bathroom of Dirty nightclub on December 11th. This was just a few weeks after the uproar over the alleged Pioneer Square-bomb plot and friends Mufeed Yacoub and Sherif Youssef were out on the town celebrating the end of the school term. They say Watson followed them into the bathroom at Dirty, said "You Arab, I know your kind" and then punched Yacoub in the face, striking him briefly unconscious.

I talked with Yacoub about the experience when police first announced they were looking for Watson. The suspect is now booked in Multnomah County Jail on two counts of Assault in the Fourth Degree and two counts of Intimidation in the Second Degree. Bail is set at $10,000.

Also, a relevant pie chart from December:
