Amy Winehouse Found Dead in Her Home

Posted by Wm.™ Steven Humphrey on Sat, Jul 23, 2011 at 12:16 PM

According to the BBC, 27-year-old singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her North London home. Police are so far saying that her death is unexplained, though her heavy drinking past has been well publicized. She was booed off the stage at a concert last month in Serbia because of her drunken performance, but had also recently completed an alcohol rehabilitation course. More later.

Winehouse shouldn't be lumped in with the good 27's.

I am far more shocked and saddened that 92 kids were murdered in Norway than I am by the death of a celebrity who had profound drug problems, and was apparently not doing enough to address the problem. Junkies usually don't end up well, and substance abuse is hard to beat. Sad ending, true, but what does it say for this society when the latter story was far more prominently featured on social media than the former? Seriously?

Jerry Garcia had been in rehab, too. I suspect a relapse crashed into an abstinence-induced reduction of tolerance.

@ Showstopper, to quote Vonnegut, "There is nothing intelligent to say about a massacre."

(Let's just let the "intelligent" part of that slide when it comes to social media, and maybe substitute "snide").
