The iconic television essayist Andy Rooney will end his regular weekly appearances on “60 Minutes,” CBS said Tuesday.

Mr. Rooney, 92, has contributed sometimes insightful, sometimes irritating commentaries to the newsmagazine for more than three decades — a total of 1,096 of them, according to CBS. Mr. Rooney will formally make an announcement about his reduced role in essay No. 1,097 on Sunday night.
