It's Almost as Though They Had an Agenda

Posted by Paul Constant on Wed, Oct 26, 2011 at 2:15 PM

BoingBoing reports that the front page of the Washington Post this morning featured a nice big photo of an Oakland police officer bending down to pet a cute little kitty, just above a story about last night's tear gassing headlined "Protesters wearing out their welcome nationwide."

The thing that really bugs the hell out of me is that these mainstream newspapers always hide behind claims of objectivity. There's no such thing as objective journalism, and just about every paper that claims to be objective is really pushing a conservative agenda on the few readers they have left. But this bullshit is beyond the pale. That Post page displays an overt attempt to push an agenda on readers, and everyone who works for the Washington Post should be ashamed of themselves today.

I can't keep it straight - is the mainstream media 'bias' for the left or right?
Those mainstream media people should just make up our minds already.

It's a pro-stupid bias and a pro-status quo bias. Not everything is as simple as "left" and "right."

And don't worry, the media make up our minds all the time.

There is a reason why Dean Baker calls WaPo "Fox on 15th"

The media bias falls whatever direction they think will draw their demographic. They aren't trying to control us. They just want us to read/listen/watch so their advertisers will give them more money. It's not about left, right, stupid, or status quo. It's about the fucking money.

If you think the pursuit of market advantage is totally apolitical and doesn't happen within an ideological framework and doesn't reflect (and result in) all kinds of biases and assumptions, you simply haven't done your homework.

First it was the right bitching about the 'lamestream media', now it's the left because of a lack of glowing occupy coverage.
It makes me think the media is just doing its' job correctly.
Paul, quit whining.

Yeah, you've made that point over and over already. So someone who says something completely wrong and gets skewered by people on both sides of an issue, they're automatically right? Like Rick Perry saying that Obama may not have been born in the U.S. but it doesn't matter... Democrats will disagree because Obama IS a citizen by birth and birthers will disagree because of the claim that it wouldn't matter even if he wasn't born here. So therefore Perry said the perfect thing! Christ, that's stupid.

@geyser. I'm not saying that news media is apolitical or don't have ideological slant. I'm asserting that there aren't these great big top down directives aimed at influencing opinion as many claim. The media pander to their base. Popular talking points sell.

People aren't as stupid as everyone thinks they are. Except for angry trolling political males. Not so smart, they are.

Is anyone filming the mockumentary yet, or just using the ripe footage already existing from the Youtube clips?
