Hey, all you 99 percenters. And I guess you 1 percenters, too, wherever you are. What are you doing this weekend? Nothing much? HEY, GUESS WHAT? MAYBE THIS MIGHT BE A GOOD TIME TO, OH, I DON'T KNOW, OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH A CREDIT UNION. Here's our latest installment on what
Occupy Portland (and friends) have planned. (And, remember, general assembly meetings are always open to the public, every day at 7 pm.)

Friday, 11 AM to 3 PM—Local Banks Occupy Pioneer Square

Portland community banks and credit unions will be at Pioneer Square to provide information about banking locally, and to help people with paperwork to open new accounts!

Saturday, 9:30 AM to whenever banks close—National Bank Transfer Day (and, hey, also Guy Fawkes Day)

Occupiers are planning to rally at 9:30 AM at Terry D. Schrunk Plaza and then head to various bank branches in support of anyone who's shown up to ditch big banks in favor of local operations. The credit union trade group says 650,0000 Americans have made the switch since late September—more than in all of 2010. Occupy says: Route (including bank and credit union locations) will be announced at the time of the rally.

Sunday, 2 PM—Hands Around the Pioneer Courthouse

We will assemble at Terry Schrunk Plaza at 2:00 pm for brief speeches on the Keystone XL Pipeline and Tar Sands. We will then walk to the historic Pioneer Courthouse and encircle it at approximately 2:45. The action calls for President Obama's rejection of the Keystone XL Pipeline, which is proposed to be constructed from the Tar Sands oil fields of northern Alberta through America's Heartland to refineries near the Gulf of Mexico. Our encirclement of the Pioneer Courthouse replicates Washington DC's "Hands Around The White House". The pipeline's construction raises grave concerns about potential catastrophic environmental damage to life on our special planet.

Tuesday, 6 PM—Occupy Bagdad (Theatre)

Occupy sympathizers are planning a silent auction fundraiser and comedy show at the Bagdad. Tickets are $10 and available if you click here. A Howard Zinn documentary will follow at 10PM.

Come laugh about the revolution! Nato Green (“Laughter Against the Machine”), Dwight Slade (“Comedy Central”), Augie Smith (“2010 San Francisco Comedy Competition Winner”), Arlo Stone (“Current Occupy Portland Resident”) and special guests will entertain us 99-percenters with their humor and wits.
