As previously mentioned, Jeffrey Kyle—who I'm just going to go ahead and refer to as "legendary" in the annals of Portland vintage for his previous stores Magpie (he was an original founder) and Glamour Gallery, not to mention he made a very fine addition to the team over at the Portland Design Collective—and former PDC in-house seamstress Jennifer Faust, have opened a new shop at 4707 SE Hawthorne: Funkytown. They specialize somewhat in plucking diamonds from the rough that other vintage hunters might pass over, and restoring them to their prior glory. Passionate about the importance of reusing as much material as possible, their collaborative line, JJ Joint, of swimwear, men's pants, and vintage-inspired dresses, will be almost completely constructed of secondhand materials, down to the threads and zippers. Kyle will also headquarter his whimsical Beadniks line of jewelry in the new space.

It's going to be a fun spot, with a good price point and lots of wild party clothes. Rumors of a pool party out front this summer, etc. This evening they have their grand opening champagne reception, the "Funkytown City Hall Meeting," from 6-9 pm, presenting the perfect incentive to get down with their funk.

Behold: The gist.
