Hecklevision was Heckle-rific!

Posted by Wm.™ Steven Humphrey on Mon, Jan 23, 2012 at 9:59 AM

Thanks and a tip o' the hat to everyone who showed up for Hecklevision—the Mercury's second installment in our Winter of Fun™ series—at the Hollywood Theater on Friday, in which audience members texted their heckles of Red Dawn right onto the screen! The Hollywood crew did a great job; it went off almost seamlessly, and the near sold out crowd had a blast. I also saw a bunch of you Blogtownies there, doing what you do best—MAKING WITH THE FUNNY. So here are two questions for you to ponder in the comments:

1) What was your best or THE best heckle text of the night?
2) And what should be the NEXT Hecklevision movie? (Think short. Red Dawn was very funny and a good choice, but the length was almost seizure inducing. TOO... MUCH... TO WATCH!)

P.S.! Our third event in the Mercury Winter of Fun™ series is the "That's My Jam!" Dance Party and Contest with DJ Beyonda, coming up on Sat Feb 4! Deets and tickets here!

"Remember, she's still in high school." -Erik

It was NOT the best heckle, but the comment that earned Erik a new nickname and Twitter hashtag.

Starship Troopers would be pretty great for Hecklevision.

Definitely "gross, the lady next to me is watching me jerk off."

Hilarious. Every other joke was about 45 seconds too late to be funny, as pointed out by one heckler.

Still a fucking blast!!! Limit the visible comments to one or two at a time and you guys have yourselves a great time here. Loved the movie, do another soon!

I would heckle the shit out of Starship Troopers. Or Hard Ticket to Hawaii.

I can't remember the best heckles. My night was like this: think of funny comment. Go to type funny thing into clunky old phone. Hear everybody else laugh. Look up but not know what joke made people laugh. Figure that joke was better than whatever I was going to say so stop writing it. Wait 2 minutes. Repeat.

Somewhat disappointed I had to miss this. Yes, Starship Troopers. Do that. I will text things in its general direction.

@CC, come on! Some of us have voices too small to shout. I mean, I once yelled at a dog and it terrified me. Viva la text!

It would be cool to slow the text speed down, or drastically increase text screen real estate. That was the only kink. Everything else was pretty much my best night of the year (keep in mind it's January).

Shorter movie sounds great. Spaceballs?

I think my enjoyment of the experience was actually helped by my phone informing me that it does not like "shortcodes" or whatever the registration number was. Nonetheless, maybe we can text AND yell next time?

Also, I was a Red Dawn virgin, and pleased to see there were so many of us! First half great. Last quarter interminable.

Hecklevision was awesome, despite the kinks and the ridiculously long beer line. My vote for next movie... Troll 2, or maybe some sort of terrible musical?

What's Nora Ephron's shortest movie? She's always craptastic.
