Portlandia is... Wait. It's FUNNY??

Posted by Wm.™ Steven Humphrey on Wed, Feb 1, 2012 at 2:29 PM

Okay, so maybe not "ha-ha" funny, but the following sketch is definitely an improvement, and may even rise to the level of "a modicum of jocularity." (Seriously, this is the best dead-on parody of Portland—and themselves—they've done since episode one.)

Hat tips to Blogtown consulting detective Graham!

What about the 'not a parody' option?

The Portlandia sketch would have been more accurate if the music had been more old-timey. Get rid of the drum kit and the synth, add some clarinet and musical saw.

I DON'T KNOW IF I'D GO SO FA... *ahem* I don't know if I'd go so far as to say funny, but it's a clever enough idea.

I lasted a minute, then shut it down.

At least it reminded me that youtube exists and I can go there to listen to some good music.

So it's only season 2 and they are already parodying themselves?

I sit here with a mustache AND lack of belt and I am flummoxed by the dichotomy of "DO I VOTE WITH MY DIET OR NOT?"

@11 I was thinking, "it's only season 2 and they're already recycling material?" But it's the same general idea.

Ha ha, indeed there are a certain number of people in Portland who look like that. Brilliant! "It's funny because it's true!" humor isn't supposed to be all that funny, or at least thats my theory. The main point is to make people watching IFC feel hip and be able to say, "Ha! Ha! I totally recognize that observation!"

I wanted more. What about burlesque shows, making your own soap and hanging cloth diapers out to dry next to your milking goats?

@14...there sure are! Wait, i thought we were'nt supposed to comment on peoples appearance or "personal choices"?
At the lowest common denominator it is funny. Vegan jokes are always going to be fresh because there are enough of you that are such pretentious preachy douches. Far from all of you, mind you, but enough

Since a certain expert on lowest common denominators, pretension, and being a douche has sucked all the humor out of the thread, I will point out that I was being sarcastic when I said "Ha ha, indeed there are a certain number of people in Portland who look like that. Brilliant!"
