Jeff Baker at the O has a writeup of last night's Rumpus Valentine's Day event in San Francisco, at which the identity of popular advice columnist Dear Sugar was revealed as none other than Portland author Cheryl Strayed. Dear Sugar is a mostly great column over at the Rumpus that's notable for Sugar's bracing combination of rare-for-the-internet empathy and taking no bullshit; speculating about Sugar's identity has long been a popular pastime among literary types. Did anyone have money on Sugar being Strayed? (I actually thought it might be Lidia Yuknavitch—I was close! They're in the same writing group.) This announcement provides a nice little PR boost up front of Strayed's upcoming memoir release Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, out next month.
