The Cribs Have a New Song and a New Album on the Way

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Mon, Feb 20, 2012 at 1:58 PM

The Cribs have announced their latest album, In the Belly of the Brazen Bull, which comes out on May 8 on Wichita Recordings. It's the fifth full-length from the British band, made up of the three Jarman brothers—the band's since reverted back to a three-piece after the departure of guitarist Johnny Marr. Like Marr, Gary Jarman calls Portland home, and fittingly, the band is kicking off a very short US tour right here in town, on Tuesday, April 3 at Holocene.

Here's a tune from In the Belly of the Brazen Bull (an album title that makes me thing of stock markets, for some reason), which was produced in part by Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann—indeed, this track has some of that crunchy drum sound familiar from Transmissions from the Satellite Heart. Actually, that may be a coincidence, as it turns out this particular track was recorded by Steve Albini; either way, it marks a return to a raw, live sound for the Cribs.
