The Make It Pop! fundraiser helps make it possible, and this year's Make It Pop! takes place next week, on Thursday, April 26 at the Cleaners at the Ace Hotel (403 SW 10th). The show includes intimate performances from: Luz Elena Mendoza, fresh off the record release of her band Y La Bamba's new album Court the Storm (that's tomorrow night at the Doug Fir); Matt Sheehy of Lost Lander, who's just been added to this year's bill; Neal Morgan, whose drum-and-vocal album In the Yard came out earlier this year on Drag City; and Brooke Parrott, who plays in Loch Lomond and also has her new solo EP on the way, coming out June 1.
There will also be treats on hand, from Olympic Provisions, Boke Bowl, Bakery Bar, and Fifty Licks—plus the treatiest of all treats, beer, will be provided by Captured By Porches. It's a $35 ticket, but it goes to a terrific cause, and a unique one—PDX Pop Now! is one of the things that makes the Portland music scene so incredible; it's an invaluable part of the city's culture. Naturally, the show is all ages, and tickets are on sale here.
