Georgia Kirkpatrick's Silvania

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Wed, May 2, 2012 at 2:29 PM

Local designer alert: Georgia Kirkpatrick is a Portland/Peruvian-raised designer who carries on a remarkable tradition founded by her grandmother Silvia, who started Silvania Prints in 1958, creating textile prints based on ancient Peruvian art and selling the hand printed fabric at her flagship store in Lima. Next Saturday Mabel & Zora is hosting a Mother's Day-themed trunk show of Georgia's debut collection of "business casual" apparel, using cotton purchased from small-scale Peruvian farms and designs by indigenous women that reference the nation's history. Bonus for moms: the shop will give out free flowers to child-bearers throughout the weekend while supplies last. Trunk show proper is 2-6 pm, Saturday, May 12.
