Emily Wells at the BTR Live Studio

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Fri, May 25, 2012 at 11:58 AM

BreakThru Radio had Emily Wells by recently, and here's the video of her performing in their studio. (Forgive the 30 second commercial that precedes it.) She's playing a brand new song called "Come to Me"—so new, in fact, that it's not on Wells' terrific new album Mama, which came out in April. Here you can see how Wells builds up her one-woman army of sound, using loops and an arsenal of instruments. (I recently off-handedly described Wells as tUnE-yArDs for the clinically depressed, although that's pretty glib.) It's fascinating to see how she puts it all together; there's also a quick Q&A following the song, too. The nomadic Wells spends just as much time in Portland as anywhere else, and she's playing the Doug Fir (830 E Burnside) on Saturday, June 2. Check out next week's Mercury for more on Wells, and dig this video in the meantime.
