The Last Decapitated Head on the Left: George W. Bush

Posted by Wm.™ Steven Humphrey on Thu, Jun 14, 2012 at 10:29 AM

If you were squinting hard at season one, episode 10 of Game of Thrones—particularly the scene in which King Joffrey takes Sansa Stark on a little sightseeing tour to see her dead father's head on a spike (YUCK!)—you might have also recognized another spiked head.

According to show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss on the DVD commentary (via io9):

"The last head on the left is George Bush. George Bush's head appears in a couple of beheading scenes. It's not a choice, it's not a political statement. We just had to use whatever head we had around."

HBO said in a statement: “We were deeply dismayed to see this and find it unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste. We made this clear to the executive producers of the series who apologized immediately for this inadvertent, careless mistake. We are sorry this happened and will have it removed from any future DVD production.”
