Superfest—the annual festival put on by the good folks who throw the all-ages Supernature DIY dance music parties—just announced the lineup for this year, and boy it looks good. As in the past, it's a bunch of electronic bands playing music that's intended for booty-shaking, a crop that grows with each year in this town. But the big news: Chromatics are playing their first Portland show since releasing Kill for Love, the magnum opus that is easily one of the year's best records. They'll be playing with Italians Do It Better labelmates/sister band Glass Candy, headlining the opening night of Superfest 4 at the Crystal Ballroom on Thursday, August 30.

There's lots more info about this to mention, including important details on how this year will act as a benefit for Music in the Schools AND how there will be a fest-closing free show on Sunday, September 2 in the South Park Blocks. But it's Friday! So let's just make with the press release. Less type-y, more copy paste-y. Get all the particulars after the jump. (And check out the Superfest 4 website.)

SuperFest 4! is the brainchild of collaborators Evan Neuhausen (Music in the Schools), Eric Mast (Audio Dregs, Supernature) & Manny Reyes (Atole, Supernature) who met up many times over the Summer to make SuperFest 4! a reality. The story goes that Evan approached Manny about organizing a show together, and when Evan (who has been to every SuperFest! & SuperFresh!) said the words, "SuperFest! is a Summer tradition for me and my friends!" our biggest and best Fest became a reality. We hope to raise awareness for Music in the Schools, as well as dance all night with our amazing friends.

We would like to thank everyone who has helped make SuperFest! a reality. There are so many of you... Love you all! <3

Music in the Schools, Inc. (MITS) is a non-profit organization run by Portland high school students passionate about music education. Founded in 2007, MITS has raised over $35,000 for PPS music education through a series of benefit concerts hosted at local venues. The money we raise is split evenly between the several PPS high schools, providing much needed support to programs struggling for funding. In this time of budget cuts and economic uncertainty, raising money for the arts becomes especially important. As students, we are passionate in our belief that music plays an important role in our high school curriculum and want to make sure it survives as a value in public education. We also feel that the traditional music program isn’t for everyone, which is why we’ve begun to host high school band showcases and battles of the bands. These events give students the opportunity to perform for a paying audience alongside established adult acts, an experience invaluable to aspiring musicians.

Supernature is Portland’s longest running DIY/Dance/Electronic night dedicated to Portland’s live electronic scene. We’ve hosted over 100 local bands, as well as awesome national acts such as Ratatat, LCD Soundsystem, Starfucker & YACHT! SuperFest! is the crown jewel of our series, we hope to keep collaborating with Music in the Schools for years to come. We have always been about community, now more than ever.
