Fox has been trying to reboot Daredevil for a little while now, lest the character return to Marvel—following Ben Affleck's venture into spandex leather, Fox apparently has until October to get a new Daredevil into production before the rights revert to Marvel/Disney. It's looking like Fox's attempts aren't going to come through, but one of the filmmakers they were talking to about the project was Joe Carnahan, the guy behind Smokin' Aces, The A-Team, and The Grey. Here's something I like about Carnahan: As soon as it looked like his Daredevil wasn't going to happen ("Think my idea for a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-styled superhero went up in smoke today kids," Carnahan tweeted, followed by "DD pitch was tremendous and everyone flipped for it. The clock ticked down at Fox, that's why it went tits up"), Carnahan uploaded the "sizzle piece" he put together for Fox.

The earnest part of me thinks this YouTube is the result of a filmmaker who's proud of what he put together and bummed it didn't happen. The cynical part of me thinks this is a tactic by Fox to gauge how Carnahan's unique take on a superhero flick might go over. Regardless, this cleverly edited footage—there's nothing original here, footage-wise, just stuff to give a sense of what Carnahan would've gone for—makes me want to see Carnahan's Daredevil. For personal reasons, the footage from The Warriors that's in here hits me the hardest, but honestly, the whole thing, tone-wise, is great. Fox, Carnahan, Marvel, whoever: I would've watched the hell out of this.
