Concordia's gotten pretty damn cute over the last few years. With more decent restaurants than you can count on one hand, a few fun shops, and a couple of great cafes all clustered around NE 30th and Killingsworth, this neighborhood has one of the highest concentrations of tasteful and local commerce in town... and remaining relatively remote in its North-of-Alberta-Street situation, it's not yet as crowded or overhyped as some shopping districts around town.
But they're not quite a well-kept secret either... in fact, they're welcoming anyone willing to make the trek out to their 4th annual Block Party this Monday, September 10th. A post-Labor Day celebration from 6-9 pm, the Concordia Neighborhood Association invites the rest of Portland for a food demo by Robots Love Cupcakes, live music by Purse Candy, and free food from DOC, Autentica, Yakuza Lounge, Extracto, and Cocotte. Browse the shops while you're there—I'm already a fan of Troolie, and I can't resist stopping in Red Fox vintage any time I'm around. The neighborhood promises special events at the surrounding businesses, which I'm going to interprete as "sales." Check out Concordia, Blogtown—and as always, eat and drink well while you're there.
