Another Reason Lilo & Stitch Is Totally Fucking Badass

Posted by Erik Henriksen on Thu, Oct 4, 2012 at 2:29 PM

Whenever I tell anyone that I think Lilo & Stitch is "totally fucking badass," they usually look at me like I'm five years old. (A five-year-old who has a filthy mouth and has been drinking.) Which is fair, because the only people who seem to be equally aware of how great Lilo & Stitch is are five-year-olds. But there are reasons it's one of my favorite animated films, and easily my favorite Disney movie: It's funny without being dumb, it's sweet without being saccharine, it's a remarkably identifiable look at what it's like to grow up in a less-than-ideal family situation, it's gorgeous to look at, and Stitch is the best. Well, second-best. He's my second-favorite. By the end of this post you'll probably be able to guess who my first-favorite is.

Anyway, io9's got a deleted scene from the film—not sure why it's surfaced now, a decade after the movie came out, but I'm glad it has. It's great. Even at this early stage, you can see how fantastically emotive all the characters are and how solid the script is. Plus, RACISTS! Racists getting shut down by a little girl and her freak pet from outer space!

SOMEWHAT RELATED: This gives me the slightest of excuses to brag about how I have this, so I'm going to take it. The art is by the excellent Natalie Nourigat, who drew that Miyazaki comic for the Mercury a while back and—full disclosure—is a pal of mine. Do you have anything even half as great as this? No. You do not.
