This Week's Mercury Music Section

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Thu, Oct 11, 2012 at 12:35 PM

Another week, another Mercury music section to console yourself with as you learn that there is a new Rolling Stones song out there in the world. Stay calm, this has happened many, many times before. Everything will be all right.

Corin Tucker Band's second, super album Kill My Blues could be termed "mom rock"—in the sense that it was made by moms who rock. (Your mom probably won't like it, and that's a good thing.)

Alexis Gideon made an album that's also an opera that's also a stop-motion animation film that's also an interpolation of a work of literature that's also a dreamy, crazy, beautiful, weird, indescribable experience. What's really incredible is that this is not the first time Gideon's done this.

Rodriguez's long, slow rise to fame is one of the the greatest rock 'n' roll stories of all time. And it had nothing to do with airplay, press, hit singles, magazine covers, or any of that. It's a simple affirmation that great work does eventually get the recognition it deserves.
LISTEN:

Rodriguez - "Crucify Your Mind"

Woods makes folk-psych-rock, and a lot of it. Their new album saw them trying the "normal thing" for a little bit.

Woods - "Cali In A Cup" by forcefieldpr

Yes, Bob Dylan is old. But don't lie, you'll miss him when he's gone.
LISTEN:

Bob Dylan - "Duquesne Whistle"

Plus a festering clump of Up & Coming shows.
